3. Description

Ciclesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) used for the long-term control of asthma. It is delivered via a metered-dose inhaler (MDI) to reduce inflammation in the airways, helping prevent asthma attacks. It is not a rescue inhaler and should not be used for acute asthma symptoms.

 

4. Indications

• Maintenance treatment of asthma in adults and adolescents (≥12 years)
• Reduction of airway inflammation and prevention of asthma exacerbations
• Not for acute bronchospasm relief

 

5. Dosage and Administration

• Recommended Dose:
  • Mild to moderate asthma: 100µg once daily
  • Severe asthma: Up to 400µg daily (divided into two doses)
• Administration:
  • Shake the inhaler well before use.
  • Exhale fully before inhaling the medication.
  • Inhale deeply while pressing the canister.
  • Hold breath for a few seconds, then exhale slowly.
  • Rinse mouth with water after each use to prevent oral thrush.
• Priming: If not used for >7 days, release one test spray before use.

• Hypersensitivity to Ciclesonide or any of its components
• Acute asthma attacks (should use a short-acting bronchodilator instead)

• Not for emergency use: Does not provide immediate relief from bronchospasms.
